I typically don't pay much attention to my hair, only getting a haircut a couple of times a year and a blowout for special events, but when I came across the Head Spa videos on TikTok, I felt compelled to book an appointment. Being a massage therapist and a human, I was drawn to the head massage and soothing atmosphere, not initially realizing that it was more of a hair scalp treatment rather than a deeply relaxing, mind melting head massage, like I was looking for.
THE TREATMENT
After examining two nearby locations, I scheduled the earliest available appointment. The booking was made approximately 4 weeks in advance due to the growing popularity of the service, so it came as no surprise. Upon arrival, I discovered that the location was situated within a hair studio, which is the moment It was confirmed what I had signed up for. I was then led to a very clean and well-organized room with an appealing aesthetic. Seated in an oversized reclining shampoo chair, I answered a few questions before being shown a scalp analysis on an iPad using a specialized camera, very cool.
The treatment started with warm oil poured over my hair line and then massaged into my scalp. Next was an exfoliant treatment, then a detox treatment, then a steam treatment with a hand massage. This was all very nice.
MY REVIEW
Although the 60-minute $150 Head Spa treatment was very enjoyable, I personally wouldn't typically spend that much on a hair treatment. The highlight of the experience was the initial application of hot oil, while the scalp massage with the products was just average. I must admit that my hair looked amazing afterwards, with my curls more defined than ever before. Once dried, my hair felt voluminous, shiny, and incredibly luxurious.
Don't get me wrong, I knew going in this was a scalp treatment but was hoping for more emphasis on the massage, they don't exactly show you the product treatments in all those TikTok videos.
MY PLAN
With my extensive knowledge and skills, I plan to offer a Head Massage available to my clients. This will include a blend of craniosacral therapy, shiatsu points, energetic work and Indian Head Massage techniques that I will acquire during my CEU training this weekend. The massage session will also include the hands and feet as well for an overall relaxing, yet therapeutic experience.

I would love what you’re offering. How much and when.
Thank you for sharing your experience. I was intrigued and wanted one as well. If I was going to a salon, I would expect it to be a hair treatment. They are not massage therapist. We all have had that aggressive shampooer! They think they are giving you a massage and they are not. Now if i am specifically booking through you for example, i would.not expect a hair treatment but more of a focus on a massage and the water is a bounus for relaxation. Extra BONUS if my hair comes out amazing! But I am not expecting a hair treatment.
Yes I would book it through you
